Families today deal with many significant challenges. There are many situations where family therapy is much more helpful than seeing people individually. Emotionally Focused Family Therapy – EFFT is a highly effective form of therapy that works to change the negative patterns of interaction among family members and work to heal relational hurts and foster stronger attachment and support among family members. EFFT works moment by moment with the whole family to slow down these negative cycles and get to the distress beneath the anger. Once family members can express their needs in a way where they can be heard – problems can be addressed and solutions explored.

Emotion Focused Family Therapy - EFFT is also being studied in multiple research projects which demonstrate a high level of improvement in families where one or more members are struggling with depression & panic attacks, child conduct issues, step-family conflict,
an eating disorder, loss and trauma.

There are many situations that can benefit from Family Therapy
------Helping children, adolescents and adults cope with changes related to divorce, custody disputes and blended / step families
------Helping adults who experienced childhood abuse work on old hurts which can re-surface when they begin starting families of their own
------Helping families deal with illness and loss
------Working through the challenges of having adult children come back to live or "empty nest"
------Helping parents and their children find positive ways to work through "acting out" behaviors

Consultation
For many families, a life change or transition does not cause significant distress. In these cases parents may need consultation or information on the best way of helping their children or teens understand loss, or illness, separation, divorce, custody arrangements, remarriage, or the introduction of a new partner into their parent's life. In cases where family therapy is not indicated, parents may schedule a consultation session to discuss strategies and a support plan to assist them with making these transitions easier for their children.
